When I was in school, our cafeteria ladies were largely friendly folks who would help out the kids if something happened, like a dropped tray or a lost ticket. Blonde Mom’s little one had a slightly different experience yesterday.
Miss C came home from school yesterday with a message stamped on her forearm in black ink. The stamp says, “Buy Lunch Tickets.”
Blonde Mom seems to have taken it in good humor, noting that she assumed all these half-days meant no school lunch service. Seriously, though, whatever happened to a phone call or a note home? I don’t think I’d be as cool and collected if I had a kid in school come home with instructions stamped on an arm - I know it’s not permanent, but it just seems wrong.
Some schools have adopted, and our school system here in Bedford County is considering, a system called “PaySchool” which lets parents cover such emergencies (or planned expenses as well) by adding money to their child’s account online. The system can be used for lunch money, activity fees or any other type of school expense. In a situation like this, they could have called the parent, and the parent could have gotten online and used a credit or debit card or checking account to have paid the money immediately.
I’m surprised we don’t have something like that in Davidson County…I’d be all for it!
In the mean time, this morning I sent a check for a month’s worth of milk for my daughter.
