…or…Teamwork! Teamwork! Everybody, Everywhere!

Our resident Coyote has given the call-out for some assistance.

I need to build a round pen, and I need to do it over a weekend. So, I will need one crew on Saturday, Sept 8, and another on Sunday, Sept 9. Two people on the auger, two on the saws for one day. Then, roughly the same number to set the rails after the Quick-Crete has hardened. It will be relatively easy work, but many hands is key. I will provide tamales and beer, or soda if you must, and of course material and tools, though, if you have a decent hammer, bring it. Saturday’s crew will mark and set posts, hang the gate. Sunday’s crew will hang the rails, and set railroad ties and spread footing.

This could be the first ever blogger joint effort day! If you think you can help, please leave an email in the comments, or send mail to me via freespeech43 over at yahoo.

Outside work. Sweat. Tamales. More sweat. Plenty of suds.

What the hell else could you want?

I’m in…big hair, painted nails, and a hammer! What the hell else could you want, Mack? hee!

Let’s help him out…it’ll be fun!
Remember: A blogger in need is a friend indeed!

If you’ll get a blogger crew to come to my house and help me do some much needed work, I’ll be there. Sheesh.

But wouldn’t it use a lot of gas for us all to drive out there?

GingerSnaps on 31 August, 2007 at 4:59 pm #

Saucer of milk, anyone?
;)

Sista, thats what your church is for…

Coble, not if ya’ll carpool.

Ginger, thanks for the link. The Summer heat has me way behind, but I hope to have this pen up in time to work the young yearling into a full fledged work horse.

How is you asking for help any different than Smiff asking for help?

I’m confused.

GingerSnaps on 31 August, 2007 at 5:42 pm #

Sista, I would be more than happy to organize a “Help a Sista Out” day for you! If you’ll provide some food and beer, “they will come.” lol

Let me know! This is what “community” is all about.

Mack -

If you don’t mind spending time with those of the Conservative persuasion and a church member, I probably have some time I can put in on Saturday.

Hit me up at Email the Muse with the details like where and from when to when and directions and what you might need me to bring and all like that.

Uh, so, who wants to help me do some landscaping? And convert a half-finished attic into a master bedroom? Anyone? Anyone? Bueller? :) Can we start a blogger barn-raising circuit?

bluecmuse on 31 August, 2007 at 6:25 pm #

I think we’re all missing the point, somehow. Mack didn’t ask for help for a project, he asked for help for a project that needed to be completed in one weekend for some reason.

Nothing he is asking for help for must have more than one person (well, maybe the augering). If he had the time, he could do it all himself over a couple of months. It’s the time factor that’s the variable.

Just so, The Much Younger Trophy Wife and I are renovating our two bathrooms a little at a time and doing much of the work ourselves. Sure we could ask for help, but we’ve got it covered (and are almost done) slowly and by ourselves since we’re not on a deadline.

Maybe we should have some type of community notice board or something where people who need help can submit requests.

“Mack didn’t ask for help for a project” BCM, I’m teasing in my request, although I’m not convinced that a blogger “barn-raising” group is such a bad idea. I may need your advice when I get around to doing the bathroom, by the way. ;)

Katherine Coble on 31 August, 2007 at 6:40 pm #

a blogger barn-raising group is a very good idea.

We’ve actually been doing that for awhile now–think of all the people who tried their best to help Knuck out with his restaurant, all the people who supported me through my surgery and The Other Thing, the folks who came to B’s party, etc.

I just didn’t understand Mack’s dismissal of Sista’s issue. He called the original post “Amish for a day” and then when Sista made a VERY AMISH request–I’ll help you if you are going to be there to help me–he seemed to dismiss it.

I think a blogger barn raising group is a great idea! Most of us already have a few friends we can count on to help with moving and such. the BBRG would just expand the members of that group …

To be clear, I wasn’t dismissing an idea that Sista was seriously putting out a call for help. When I read the “sheesh”, I read exasperation that I would have the nerve to ask for help. It actually bordered on dismissal itself. If I was wrong, apologies all around. I was making the point that fellowship is usually a big part of the church experience. Since I don’t do church, I get mine from people who are engaged enough to blog. They are my kind of people, left or right, and smack in the middle.

Muse, You have always been polite to those with a different perspective, and I can’t always do that, so yes, to answer your question, if you are indeed ready to pitch in, I would be honored to have you there.

Oh, yes, Muse, you nailed it. Time is critical. That is exactly why I am asking. I have around 84 projects I am working on, but none is all that time sensitive. I am almost through with the chicken coop. Ok, sigh, 50% through. And I think organizing people to do community projects is a jam up idea. Who couldn’t use some help now and again?

Conde Senshun on 31 August, 2007 at 7:18 pm #

Rachel, seriously, I couldn’t tell if you were pulling my leg or what…But I’m going to go with the idea that we are friends and you were being facetious. Or maybe you are still making me pay for the Debbie Downer thing…;)

GingerSnaps on 31 August, 2007 at 7:21 pm #

Most definitely we could all use a hand every now and then…being on my own, it can be really disheartening just to try and lift something heavy (that would take, like, 15 minutes with help). The church I used to go to had a wonderful program for single moms where a couple of mechanics would do oil changes and light mechanic work for free…they did it every few months.

Christ made a practice of meeting the physical and/or emotional need of a person first, and then the spiritual needs were met almost naturally from the kindness and compassion shown to them.

That is always where I have seen the place of the church and our communities.

I would be happy to help with volunteer projects. I have experience in stuff like that, and love doing it.

Rachel is on a roll this evening with her comedic one-liners, etc. (She’ll be here all week, folks! Tickets on sale at the box office!) ;)

Rachel on 31 August, 2007 at 7:31 pm #

Mack, I will always be making you pay for the Debbie Downer thing. I have my complaint categorized and filed so I can always find it. But yes, I was pulling your leg. :)

Ah. I see your point.

I’d help, but I’m the last person who can do something like this…gas money or no gas money.

But I’ll tell you what–I’ll bake a pie for anyone who does help.
