Filed Under (Elections & Candidates) by Katherine Coble on 08-31-2007

Continuing the Matryoshka Doll theming of his candidacy, Fred Thompson did announce yesterday that he would announce his entrance into the Presidential race next week.

I guess you can’t fault a guy for firing some warning shots over the bow, can you?

The blogger at Hennessy’s View (whom I assume is named Hennessey) is quite excited

I believe that Thompson will energize a lot of people. I also believe Thompson is the only candidate or potential candidate who can create a wave and provide coat tails.

I don’t know about you, but I’m jacked up over this. For the first time since 1988, I have a horse in the race.

Our own Bill Hobbsliterally wrote the book on Thompson (with a contribution from MCB/PITW/Krumm/(but not his own blog) blogger Roger Abramson). Hobbs also has a handy campaign donation button on his site, if you are so inclined.

Things are about to get all crazy up in the hizzy. (I sure hope that means that this is going to be fun to watch, because that’s what I meant to say.)

JP, we Vanderbilt fans own that phrase. ;)

I’m a big fan of good marketing, and whatever else you say about Thompson, he knows how to hype and manipulate the media. From a “watching the magician from backstage” point of view, it’s a thing of beauty.

Yeah, he makes Karl Rove look like a piker.

If he campaigns like he served in office, I doubt he’ll win a single state. He isn’t known as a tireless worker. He is about to undergo way more scrutiny than he ever has before. Giuliani will crush him.

We’ll see. He inherits the base, and there’s a huge power in that. The more liberal Republicans always do somewhat better in Iowa, NH will always annoint an off-the-wall candidate because the people there love beig in the national headlines, but South Carolina is where the real Republican primary starts. That’s why George Bush became president and not ohn McCain.
-
Social moderates have a hard time surviving South Carolina.
-
Because no one up till now had a hold on the base, by just showing up Fred is amongst the frontrunners.
-
Now Rudy has to convince the evangelicals he’s one of them, and that’s going to be hard because everybody knows he’s not. It’s Rudy who is now in trouble, by default.

…whatever else you say about Thompson, he knows how to hype and manipulate the media.

You mean that he has a network of associates that know how to hype and manipulate the media.

Like his wife, Jeri, who works at Verner Liipfert.

Or Mary Matalin, who’s on his campaign.

I wouldn’t give Fraud much of the credit here.
