I never knew that Mark Rose was such a huge fan of the Philadelphia Phillies. In this post he chronicles the up and down season of his favorite team. Who is your favorite team? Who do you pick to win it all this year?

Speaking of baseball, did anybody watch the “The Bronx is Burning” over the summer? I made a point to watch every episode. My favorite was the final one. I was just a little kid when Reggie Jackson earned the name “Mr. October”, but I will never forget watching him run off of that field. What an awesome player.

I didn’t see as much of “The Bronx Is Burning” as I meant to, but I thought it was terrific. That was one of those cases where, if you’d said to me, “Oliver Platt will be George Steinbrenner and John Turturro will be Billy Martin,” I’d have laughed in your face. But when you actually saw them in the roles, it made perfect sense, and they were both incredible.

Yeah, I thought they did a good job too. Those fake big ears that Turturro wore were kind of funny though. I liked it how they interviewed people at the end of the show who were there when the real events took place. Reggie Jackson was something else though. The guy really showed up to play when it mattered. Of course his ego also made for good TV and newspaper reporting.

I think you may have meant to say “Reggie,” although Jesse’s ego sometimes also makes for good TV and newspaper reporting. :)

That’s funny. Oops. Went ahead and changed it.

Turturro was GREAT as Billy Martin, and I liked Platt as Steinbrenner. I didn’t buy the guy playing ‘Reggie’ so much.

I lived in NY during those years, and none of that stuff was exaggerated whatsoever on the show. I loved it.

What about the actor playing Munson?

And how about that music that George Plaster and 104.5 replay for us from time to time?

oh yeah, whoever was playing Munson nailed the part. Love the music!
