Brittney found a place and it sounds really nice:
It’s a three bedroom house in the heart of Berkeley with pergo wood floors throughout, a huge kitchen with a stainless steel fridge (with a freezer on the bottom!), dishwasher, washer, dryer, plenty of storage (a basement!), free off-street parking, a small yard in back, gorgeous tile in the bathroom and eating area and a KICK ASS working fireplace in the den. It’s gorgeous. It’s a four block walk to BART, and there are two off-leash dog parks within a mile. Landlord pays for garbage and water. There is even an adorable flower/cacti garden in the front yard.
Wow, that sounds great. I really hate to think what it costs, San Francisco is spendy. I’m glad you were able to find such a great place, Brittney!
I hate to think about what it costs, too, but luckily salaries in this area make up some of the difference. It’s a pretty penny, to be sure, but Berkeley is a very desirable place to live. I can easily drop my car payment since it is so close to public transit, which also helps offset costs.
Yeah, that’s the cool thing about living somewhere with good public transportation, you can get rid of your car. That makes up for a lot, I think.
I actually miss public transportation. I was a faithful MTA rider in Baltimore, both above and below ground. At one point, my trip to and from school was ninety minutes (with tranfers) but you can do more with the time than when driving.
I almost miss that.
Best wishes on the new pad, Brittney.
Holy shit, y’all. We got the house. The landlord said to come sign the lease tomorrow. OMGWTF, I’m going to live in Berkeley. Cheesy, I know, but this is a dream come true.
I absolutely fell in love with Berkeley when I was out there. When you get there you may find me hiding in your suitcase ![]()
