Old pals Say Uncle and Les Jones have picked up on a column I found intriguing. It is about the compassion that people have for each other. This being the Holiday Season of Peace, I found what Dave Lindorff wrote in the Baltimore Chronicle and Sentinel quite interesting.

Mr. Lindorff wants Red Staters to die.

Because they have blasphemed the Sun God Algoracle. Not even the great philosopher Rodney King can help this hater.  He doesn’t want to get along. He wants the Red State scum to die, or at the least suffer greatly.

Mr. Lindorff writes, “Say what you will about the looming catastrophe facing the world as the pace of global heating and polar melting accelerates. There is a silver lining. The future political map of America is likely to look a lot different, with much of the so-called “red” state region either gone or depopulated.”

But surely we will want to give aid to those drowning and starving wretches. Right?

Not exactly. Mr. Lindorff explains, “The important thing is that we, on the higher ground both actually and figuratively, need to remember that, when they begin their historic migration from their doomed regions, we not give them the keys to the city. They certainly should be offered assistance in their time of need, but we need to keep a firm grip on our political systems, making sure that these guilty throngs who allowed the world to go to hell are gerrymandered into political impotence in their new homes.”

I hate to tell Mr. Lindorff that the cities he is referring to, the high ground as it were, will be under water if his apocalyptic fantasy were to come true.

It’s the secular equivalent of praying that God will rain fire onto the wicked. Fascinating.

Because when I think of mountainous strongholds, the first thing I think of is Baltimore’s beautiful harbor.

Geography must not be offered in Journalism School.

Jay is right, Lindoroff seems to forget the post apocalyptic rules.

That may be the dumbest newspaper column I have ever read.

Ron on 28 December, 2007 at 5:22 pm #

It’s okay, 9. He said that they’re going to protect the major cities that are on the coast with dykes, because it worked so well when they did it in New Orleans.

The irony of this post, which follows a post with the quote, “… the irony of citing (a) a losing, (b) maverick Democratic candidate (c) for U.S. Senate in a (d) small, (e) southern state (or a maverick governor from a small western state) as examples of ‘what Democrats believe on the issue,’” is probably lost on the “Ward Churchill is a liberal spokesman” crowd that has taken over here at LMCF.
.

LMCF?

Mack on 29 December, 2007 at 7:55 am #

What a strange article. I kept looking for something to make me believe it was tongue in cheek, but it is written as a serious piece.

I don’t agree with most of you Righty types about global warming. I think you guys are being myopic and somewhat lazy. You guys probably think I am shrill and sensationalist. But I’m sorry, there is no “upside” to millions of people killed or displaced in my world. We may be of different opinions politically, but we are parents and sons and daughters well before we put on those team jerseys.

Stupidest article I think I’ve ever read too. Now, if global warming only affected Jim Boyd….;)

The great thing about mankind is that it seems when large-scale catastrophe actually does strike, the vast majority of us are actually willing to help each other out (despite what the radicals like this guy say). The proof is as easy as looking at hurricane Katrina and the number of otherwise conservative individuals who stepped in to help while their leaders were busy talking about how New Orleans just got what it deserved for living a life a sin. Or 9/11, when the conservative leaders were giving the terrorists a pass in favor of blaming gay people and the ACLU.

If this op-ed is serious (which I still hope it’s not) then the author has blown cred forever. I do love me some irony/satire, but as Mack points out, that’s as obvious in this piece as waders in the Sahara.

JP, “Ward Churchill is a liberal spokesman” is a false statement. “Ward Churchill is nuts” is a more accurate statement. I don’t know of anyone who thinks Ward Churchill speaks for liberals. I assure you, no one claims Ward Churchill as a member of their group.

I seriously doubt anyone is going to claim Mr. Lindorff as their spokesman.

I am a little surprised with your response. Have anything to say about Mr. Lindorff? Or is the “Ned and Nine are LGF wingers” more your speed?

Serr8d on 29 December, 2007 at 11:50 pm #

JP, go read the NYT article. If there were a racism contest between any given conservative and Gilliard, Gilliard wins hands down…

And, although Gilliard often wrote about race and alluded to his own perspective, a lot of readers never realized he was black. In the incident that brought him the most infamy, Gilliard acidly attacked Michael Steele, the black Republican candidate for U.S. Senate in Maryland in 2006, as a traitor to his race. Black conservatives like Steele infuriated Gilliard, who couldn’t understand how any African-American could support a party that exploited racial prejudice. “I’s Simple Sambo and I’s Running for the Big House,” read Gilliard’s caption, below a doctored photo of Steele as a minstrel.

That, and the hot dog-eating contests…

Jeffraham Prestonian on 30 December, 2007 at 12:30 am #

JP, go read the NYT article.

Don’t need to — I know far more about Steve Gilliard than Matt Bai, so why do I need him to tell me anything about the man?

As I was saying, you could have chosen anything to speak critically of the man, but predictably, your headline took the high road.

serr8d on 30 December, 2007 at 11:25 am #

Well on your way to a decoration in victimhood, JP?

Victimhood, as defined by…

-You are not responsible for what happens to you.
-You are always morally right.
-You are not accountable to anyone for anything.
-You are forever entitled to sympathy.
-You are always justified in feeling moral indignation for being wronged.
-You never have to be responsible again for anything.

Victimhood is caused by…

- Caucasian, heterosexual males
- Republicans (either male or female)
- Conservatives (either male or female)
- Businessmen or women (commonly referred to as “little Eichmanns”)
- Capitalists
- The Rich people
- Christians (particularly Republican or Conservative)
- the U.S. Military (all services)
- Americans (as a general group)
- Israelis (Jews)

To Qualify, you must be…

- An underrepresented race (whoever is in the minority–the majority are barred from victimhood)
- An underrepresented gender(males are prohibited from victimhood)
- An underrepresented sexual orientation (heterosexuals are not allowed to be victims)
- A nation without land (e.g., Palestinian)
- Any nation the U.S. has a disagreement with
- A religion stuck in the Middle Ages (e.g., Islam)
- A person in jail (your crime is immaterial, but the worse the crime, the better)

How do you rate your victimhood ‘progression’?

(If you are male, start at 0…unknown, +3)
All women start at +5.
Ethnicity:
White: (M) -5 (F) 0
American Black: (M/F) +4
African Black: +5 if oppressed by whites
American Hispanic: (M/F) +3 (American Hispanic with no accent are +1)
American Oriental: (M) 0 (F) -1 (-10 if Michelle Malkin)
Palestinian: (M) +5 (F) +2 (Add +2 if a suicide bomber.)

Religious Orientation:
Christian: (M) -5 (F) -3
Minority Christian: (M/F) 0
Secular Christian: (M) +1 (F) +2 (Hillary Clinton +5)
Evangelical: (M/F) -5
Jewish: (M/F) 0
Orthodox Jewish: (M/F) -1
Ultra-Orthodox: (M/F) -3
Secular Jewish: (M/F)+2 (If pro-Palestinian:+5)
Islamic: (M) +2 (F) -3
Fundamentalist Islam: (M) +5 (F) +5
Hindu: tied into stealing jobs from Americans? -3)

Socio-economic Class:
American Poor: If a Minority, +2 for an unemployed male, +3 for an unemployed female, and +5 for an unemployed single mother.
If White, -2 if a male (they are all racists) and -1 for a female; +2 if a single mother.

Non-American Poor: (0)
Middle Class: If a Minority, (0); if White, if they are critical of a Republican administration’s failed economic policies (+2).
Non American Middle Class: There aren’t any.
Wealthy: If Minority, only if they are concerned with the lingering effects of racism (+1) If White, see rates for political orientation.
Non-American Wealthy: If they became rich through administering Western donations, especially through the UN, +2; if they became rich through business, they are oppressors and get -4.

Political Orientation:
Left/Liberal: (M) +3 (F) +5
Moderate: (M/F) 0
Conservative: If a White male, -2; a White female, -3; if a Minority male, -4; Minority female, -5.

Sexual Orientation:
Heterosexual: If male, married, and faithful, -4; if publicly found to be unfaithful, -2 unless on Larry King or Barbara Walters with their wife, in which case they have a +5 added. If they are found to be unfaithful with another man, +5. If a woman, fidelity is unimportant.
Homosexual: If male, +3; if HIV positive, +4. If female, +2.
Transgendered: +2 in all situations except +4 if their former spouse is publicly “understanding” of their tragic dilemma.

Special situations:
All who are pro-abortion on demand without restrictions receive +5. All who support restrictions of any kind, receive -4, but Minority women receive -5.

If a person with a base score >0 has a disability, +4; if they have a base score 0 is young and attractive, +4, if blond +5; if young, attractive, blond, and a missing person believed to be the victim of foul play, +10.

So, add up your score, and post it!

Mine is -50 and counting…
(adapted from Dr. Sanity’s Victimhood Guide for Idiots.)

Nice catch Serr8d, that is the theme song for today. Turn it UP.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GdaM8mxEBtY

Play that guitar Joe…

JP, get over it.

I turn on the tube and what do I see
A whole lotta people cryin’ ’don’t blame me’
They point their crooked little fingers ar everybody else
Spend all their time feelin’ sorry for themselves
Victim of this, victim of that
Your momma’s too thin; your daddy’s too fat

Get over it
Get over it
All this whinin’ and cryin’ and pitchin’ a fit
Get over it, get over it

You say you haven’t been the same since you had your little crash
But you might feel better if I gave you some cash
The more I think about it, old billy was right
Let’s kill all the lawyers, kill ’em tonight
You don’t want to work, you want to live like a king
But the big, bad world doesn’t owe you a thing

Get over it
Get over it
If you don’t want to play, then you might as well split
Get over it, get over it

It’s like going to confession every time I hear you speak
You’re makin’ the most of your losin’ streak
Some call it sick, but I call it weak

You drag it around like a ball and chain
You wallow in the guilt; you wallow in the pain
You wave it like a flag, you wear it like a crown
Got your mind in the gutter, bringin’ everybody down
Complain about the present and blame it on the past
I’d like to find your inner child and kick it’s little ass

Get over it
Get over it
All this bitchin’ and moanin’ and pitchin’ a fit
Get over it, get over it

Get over it
Get over it
It’s gotta stop sometime, so why don’t you quit
Get over it, get over it

The movie, ROR!, that the ‘In the City’ tune originates from is “Warriors”, a remarkably good flick from the late ’70’s that showed little compassion for weakness. It was a cult classic; I recall watching the thing in a late-night showing at a theater, where the other late-night cult showing was something about a transgendered transexual from Translvania I think. Can’t recall the name of it…the two crowds didn’t seem to have much in common.

Missed ‘Warriors’, did you?

Ror! on 30 December, 2007 at 6:16 pm #

Arguably however, you are right, and by being strong one can overcome
the odds.

Have you lost your mind? That is sick.

So you advocate killing people who lack compassion? Compassion to your standard?

Take your hate some place else.

http://reasonoverreligion.blogspot.com/2007/12/what-you-can-do-with-it.html

What you can do with it

Imagine you are driving home down a lonely stretch of road on Christmas Eve. You are driving a brand new S-Class Mercedes that you deserve because you work hard for a company that manufactures and sells wants and needs to a debt-ridden consumer base. As you stop at a signal, you are approached by a ragged gentlemen who starts a conversation. He explains that he is down on his luck and asks if there is anything you can do for him. You, of course knowing that this person chose to be in this situation, advise the individual to get a job. As it turns out, the guy is a vet with a twinge of PTSD. He doesn’t like your attitude regarding the fact that while he was offering to sacrifice his life and future for your freedom you were taking your prosperity for granted and he temporarily snaps. Using a move that was supposed to be reserved only for uppity terrorists, he snaps your neck. Panicking, he chucks your lifeless form behind some bushes. Actually, however, you are not dead but merely paralyzed. After rotting in sub-freezing temperatures for three days, mercifully, a pack of stray dogs arrives and puts you out of our misery by eating you alive. Unfortunately, your family never finds out what happened to you. A sad end to be sure but, after all, you did choose to drive home. Did you deserve it? Who’s to say?

Ironically, the guy gets a handsome sum for your car at a chop shop. With the cash he is able to gain access to a modest vehicle of his own, decent clothing, regular nutrition, proper rest, hygiene facilities, and a newspaper. He soon has a steady job which he now has the resources and fortitude, thanks to you, to hold.

The moral of the story is that unless you have first hand experience confronting any given adversity or hardship, you literally have zero clue as to what it entails and what may or may not be necessary to escape. You are just talking out your ass. End. Period. Full Stop. Also, becoming homeless does not mean merely losing the privilege of owning your own home and staying with relatives until you can get back on your feet.

However, if you are fortunate enough to have some unused capital laying around and you want to help capitalism do what it is really supposed to do, namely bring goods and services to those that actually need them, here’s what you can do with it.

Halftime…someone get some more beer. Titans 7, Dolts 3. Now what is this…screenplay?

Hey, RoR!, if the Hollyweird writers don’t come back from their strike, you can write episodes of a new TV show…”Homeless Hero (who just happens to look exactly like Chuck Norris, without his conservative values) takes out ‘cons who’ve Denied their Just Pleadings”…but, if you want a Reality Show, look at the nations’s prisons. They are full of people who use force and violence to get what they want without without regards to legality…or, as you say, use of whatever “may or may not be necessary to escape” adversity, poverty, homelessness, or another aspect of Bushitler’s evil neocons’ desire to hold back Nirvana on the Planet.

Really, though, I’d change the ’stray dogs’ to Karl Rove’s bastardized children borne to Ann Coulter, just to keep the theme intact…

Ror! on 30 December, 2007 at 11:30 pm #

Number9:

The only thing I am advocating is Kiva: http://kiva.org/. That’s the “what you can do with it part”.

The other point is just that old proverb about “walking a mile in someone’s moccasins”

Even the Bible has a version of it, something about “judge not, lest ye be judged yourself.”

Hate has nothing to do with it.

Mr. Lindorff wants Red Staters to die.

is arguably libelous, especially since it is supported by a deliberate falsehood.

Namely,

Number9 goes on to say,

But surely we will want to give aid to those drowning and starving wretches. Right?

Not exactly.

However, Mr. Lindorff actually says, (emphasis mine), “They certainly should be offered assistance in their time of need, but we need to keep a firm grip on our political systems, making sure that these guilty throngs who allowed the world to go to hell are gerrymandered into political impotence in their new homes.”

Is this the standard to which MCB aspires?

In reply to some criticism allow me to make it clear that this is a fictional allegory. In no way is it the intention of the author to condone the behavior portrayed here, criminal or otherwise.

Clear? How is it clear? It looks like the fantasy of a sociopath.

So you “walk a mile” in the shoes of a cold blooded murderer? What you wrote is pure hate. You don’t excuse it away by saying Stephen King does it so it is just fine and dandy. What you wrote is commentary and opinion. Not a fictional novel.

You just confirmed what people have wondered about. You need help. That is what you call “reason over religion”? It is “reasonable” to kill people?

I don’t see any difference between you and Dave Lindorff.

Really, Ror!, that’s not your best effort. Stephen King you’re not. I can’t get over the bone-crushing gnawing the stray dogs did while eating the corpse, myself.

Do you think they were, maybe, Presa Canarios? Maybe with a few stray pit bulls? If so, where’s Michael Vick when you need him?

Like I can’t swing a cat (sorry JP) on any street corner in Nashville and hit someone that can out play Joe Walsh.
