Filed Under (MCB News) by GingerSnaps on 01-05-2008

I have spoken with Ivy this evening, and because she currently does not have access to a computer, she asked that I post just to let you know a couple of things…

First of all, Katherine Coble has resigned her affiliation with Music City Bloggers effective immediately.

Secondly, effective immediately, all persons who were banned from commenting on MCB have had their “privileges” reinstated.

We will no longer be moderating comments except for those which contain personal information about another blogger, threats, or any type of libelous comment that could lead to legal problems for the Owner (Ivy). If you would like to run a topic into the ground, feel free to do so…knock yourself out…hopefully, the rest of us won’t die of boredom.;)

There are going to be some role changes, for which Ivy will be posting about later tonight.

Music City Bloggers is a work in progress. Obviously, the way we were doing things before was not working. Let’s see if this way is better. It is up to YOU to make this community a place that everyone can enjoy and perhaps even learn something in the process, so please try to keep that in mind as we move forward.

Thanks for your patience, everybody…and for hanging in there with us.

Peace.

Well, that pretty much sucks. Now I feel like the petty prick that Kat says I am.
.

Kevin on 5 January, 2008 at 8:53 pm #

JP, I think this was really about her and not you, or me, or anyone else.

Katherine Coble on 5 January, 2008 at 9:02 pm #

No, trust me. It was about you.

Enon on 5 January, 2008 at 9:09 pm #

Great to know we will still have the manic depressive, scooter drivers of questionable sexuality and the annoying homeless guy. Unfortunately we lose the excellent writing of Kat.

Glen Dean on 5 January, 2008 at 9:52 pm #

Kat’s best writing is done at Just Another Pretty Farce, not here. Perhaps, her departure from MCB will cause her posts at JAPF to be linked to more.

In any event, I am glad all of the outlaws are back. I look forward to some really good acrimonious debating with William, ROR, and JP. Welcome back guys.

I think you all have learned a lot and that is good. A free zone is much more fun. It doesn’t make everybody happy, but you can’t make everybody happy. The unhappy ones just have to be a little more tolerant.

Kat, your judgment is highly questionable - as was recently proven.

Ron on 5 January, 2008 at 10:49 pm #

Kevin, just back off. You won, be happy. Have a bottle of Thunderbird and celebrate.

Judgement, schmudgement. It ain’t a hangin’ offense. Please, Kevin, lay off it for a while, hm?

“Resigned?”

Katherine Coble on 5 January, 2008 at 11:07 pm #

Yep. Resigned.

My choice. The full text of my email was:

I hereby resign my affiliation with Music City Bloggers.

Please note that I do retain copyright on all articles written by me.

This experiment clearly is not working, and I’m not willing to devote any more time to it.

pam on 5 January, 2008 at 11:17 pm #

Promise?

claudia on 5 January, 2008 at 11:49 pm #

i think that this is an excellent direction for MCB. my peripheral positioning with this blog has been to watch and see what was happening within the community. ms. coble seems to carry a ginormous chip on her shoulders and i think that myself and others found it very unpleasant. for this reason i laid low. i realize my silly food blog doesn’t touch the intensity of what happens on MCB - but still, as much respect as i have for ivy - and on many levels - my feelings towards ms. coble made it difficult to want to be a part of this community. she appears to be a fast finger pointer, without much self awareness and even less warmth.

there. i’ve said it. so jeff, stop feeling bad and just be who you are.

all that we write here… it’s just words, man. just. words… if in the grand scheme of things these comments are shaking your very core - i would assume you might need to reevaluate a few things…

carry on.

Jeffraham Prestonian on 6 January, 2008 at 12:03 am #

FWIW, I didn’t lobby to be let back into the fold. I would have been fine just getting a few laughs out of it at my blog, that no one reads, and after a few years, I’d have forgotten all about it. :)
.

Glen Dean on 6 January, 2008 at 12:03 am #

Great comments Claudia and also a great blog you got there.

JP, just drop kick me through the goalposts of the Batman building, kthxbai…

JP, just drop kick me through the goalposts of the Batman building, kthxbai…

I’m glad someone saw it. ;)

Who hasn’t seen that building (especially if you’ve been fortunate enough to be watching a Titans game at the big concrete thingie, from the east side), and thought, “Gee, that’d be a hell of a field goal…”
.

Ron on 6 January, 2008 at 12:31 am #

Rob Bironas doesn’t have nearly enough leg for that. But Mason Crosby, on the other hand…

Jeffraham Prestonian on 6 January, 2008 at 12:44 am #

so jeff, stop feeling bad and just be who you are.

Thanks; I’ll take your advice, but I hope Kat stays.

Mack on 6 January, 2008 at 12:47 am #

Been giving this whole affair some thought today, on and off. I had misgivings about this “experiment” from the start, but not because of the people involved. Interestingly, some of the problems I expected turned out to be only minor, while others caught me totally unprepared. I didn’t like the idea of an “Editor in Chief.” I was never clear on what that job entailed. Maybe if the site had generated a profit a paid Moderator would be a smart thing, but to me, an Editor means something entirely different. To be honest, if someone was supposed to control the content, I didn’t want that person to be a conservative, or a “libertarian.” That is a personal preference. However, Kat did a good job of striking a balance and not over-editorializing, though she must have been tempted on many occasions. Overall, when her health allowed it, she did a pretty good job. Also, doing it this long for no pay is evidence of her commitment to MCB.

I was shocked by the decision to ban a single commenter, particularly when many others here have displayed some terribly insensitive traits. I thought the decision was at least in part based on a personal dislike for JP and then Kevin. I felt she stepped over the line, and I said so. That said, I am sorry to see her make the decision to leave altogether.

An overhaul may be in order, it sounds like Ivy, Rachel and Ginger plan to talk about a new direction for MCB. As usual, I wish them luck. If I may make one suggestion…

At the end of the day, close the comments on that day’s threads. I love debate, but when I visit and see the same two people satisfying their egos on a week-old thread, I get disheartened and leave. The point is to make readers stay and participate.

Ron on 6 January, 2008 at 12:52 am #

Sorry, Mack. It’s after midnight and this thread’s closed. You’ll have to come back tomorrow and make suggestions then.

Glen Dean on 6 January, 2008 at 1:02 am #

Mack, good Lord. You’re such a whiner.

William on 6 January, 2008 at 8:33 am #

Thanx Kat for your time and work into MCB. From my experience at NiT, it’s a no win situation and a thankless job.

But hey, you’ll have more time now to roast marshmallows at your blog ;)~

Slartibartfast on 6 January, 2008 at 8:44 am #

For what it’s worth, MCB’s page views were WAY up yesterday, especially for a Saturday.

More drama!

Number9 on 6 January, 2008 at 9:22 am #

At the end of the day, close the comments on that day’s threads.

Good grief. From day one you have arm chaired quarterbacked everything at MCB.

Why don’t you sign up as a contributor? Let’s see what you’ve got.

Southern Beale on 6 January, 2008 at 9:38 am #

I look forward to seeing what positive changes this development brings. FWIW, I think a policy of only moderating comments “which contain personal information about another blogger, threats, or any type of libelous comment that could lead to legal problems for the Owner” is the smart way to go. Hey, it’s worth a try.

And while I’m sorry that there may have been hurt feelings and angst created by this while situation, I think the end result will be a stronger, more interesting community forum.

Mack on 6 January, 2008 at 10:05 am #

Please use the comment section of this post to tell me what you’d like to see out of the site.

I responded.

Then this: Good grief. From day one you have arm chaired quarterbacked everything at MCB.

This is a perfect example of either-

a) A lack of reading skills

b) A person so intent on getting a lick in on someone he doesn’t like, he fails to see that the offering was done in the spirit of cooperation.

Also, an example of what is wrong here.

Mack on 6 January, 2008 at 10:07 am #

Southern Beale, me too. Looking forward to , dare I say it….change.

Jeffraham Prestonian on 6 January, 2008 at 10:09 am #

To hear some tell it, I’m the meanest meanyhead in the local blogosphere. I honestly thought they’d retired Sarcastro’s number… how was I to KNOW…?
.

Number9 on 6 January, 2008 at 10:15 am #

that the offering was done in the spirit of cooperation

I have seen your “spirit of cooperation” several times.

Why don’t you contribute Mack? It’s fun. Get off the sidelines and come on the field.

Mack on 6 January, 2008 at 10:30 am #

Ok, I’ll address this, once.

First of all, I haven’t been asked to contribute. I come to the site several times a day, I comment on things that interest me. That is my contribution.

Without significant changes taking place, I have no interest in being a contributor. I have specific ideas about what changes should be made, and I will share them with Ivy should she ask. If she does not, I’ll continue to support this idea, because I think the concept has merit, and because I like to read what certain people think.

Thats all I have to say about this.

GingerSnaps on 6 January, 2008 at 10:31 am #

hmmmm…what an intriguing idea!

;)

Number9 on 6 January, 2008 at 10:38 am #

Negotiations?

Drama.

Jeffraham Prestonian on 6 January, 2008 at 11:43 am #

I am reminded of a wise, old philosopher king’s words: “Do, or do not. There is no “try.”
.

William on 6 January, 2008 at 12:20 pm #

“Do, or do not. There is no try.”

– Jedi Master Yoda.

Actually a common quip used by concert musicians.

GingerSnaps on 6 January, 2008 at 12:42 pm #

*sigh* Evidently, my brand of levity is not translating well this morning. I’m gonna go take a nap before the Titans game.

:)

I thought it was kinda silly when I saw that JP was banned. I like what Claudia said and do much so agree.

This is supposed to be fun.

Thank you, dearheart. I’m pretty humbled that so many came out to say, “Hey, he’s an asshat, but he ain’t so bad.”

In the meantime, I do have an appeal for y’all.
