Bill Hobbs has a post (”Taking on the Establishment”–BillHobbs.com) about recent developments in What Will Happen to Rob Briley’s Political Career. Hobbs reports that, “The House Democratic Caucus is backing Briley.” Though House Democrats are standing by their incumbents (per Hobbs’ report–no news there), they haven’t excepted Briley from this list.
But what do we expect? If they don’t defend elected officials who have extramarital affairs with lobbyists and drive drunk and flee the scene of a crash and (feloniously) evade arrest and hassle police officers and are convicted of DUI, soon no elected officials will be safe.

I think Bill Hobbs is taking an email he wasn’t supposed to see in the first place — which therefore wasn’t written as if its words would be twisted — and making it into something it’s not.
I think the Democrats have walked a fine line in supporting Briley the person, while not approving of his behavior. I guess some would prefer he had been tossed out with the bathwater, but I will hold out hope that there’s another possibility: That some behind the scenes are trying to talk him out of running again. As was noted somewhere earlier today, it’s a fairly safe blue district — though not a slam dunk. It wouldn’t make any sense for the House Democratic Caucus to come out AGAINST Briley….that would just be silly.
I’m sorry, but I can’t see how Rob Briley qualifies as the metaphorical “baby” in this context.

They’re counting on no one paying attention.
