Some locals are getting an Oscar nod. This from Jim Ridley at Pith in the Wind:

Some good news for Nashvillians, though. Veteran Nashville sound mixer Peter Kurland, the only technician to have worked on every Joel and Ethan Coen film since Blood Simple, picked up a nomination for his work on No Country for Old Men. The Coens’ film tied There Will Be Blood for most nominations with eight. And “Raise It Up” from August Rush got one of the few original-song nominations not snagged by Enchanted—a sweet treat for the movie’s Nashville-based music supervisor Anastasia Brown.
