Busy Mom’s got a public service announcement for those of you who actually answer your phones.

Might I recommend registering on the Do Not Call list? If you registered when it first became available (some five years ago), you may no longer be on the list and need to renew.  (updated)

I registered with the do not call list and I still get telemarketing calls. Political action groups and non-profits are exempted. And if those dang Disabled American Vets and the firefighters selling me circus tickets don’t quit calling me, I’m going to blow a gasket.

The only that works is Caller ID. I just don’t answer any call from an 800# or that comes up “Unknown Name.”

Don’t forget, companies that you already do business with are excempt as well.

We had an awful, awful experience with the company formerly known as BellSouth. Because we had phone service through them, they could call us about DSL service, even though we are on the do not call list. The insanity that ensued (including us getting signed up for something we didn’t ask to get signed up for) marked the end of our hosehold’s 50-year relationship with ATT / South Central Bell/BellSouth.

Somebody needs to close that loophole.

That’s weird. I’ve never been called about that by them.

I did get very angry at my mortgage holder. I wrote them and told them to never release my name and address to their vendors. I was getting tired of all these “line of credit” offers in the mail and offers for mortgage default insurance and whatnot.

I guess I got a bug up my butt one day because I remember just calling a bunch of folks and telling them to leave me alone, and now I don’t get that stuff anymore.

If you ask them to stop calling you however, they are bound by law to stop (at least until after the next time you do business with them).

BTW, According to the Do Not Call Registry website, the FTC is NOT dropping numbers from the list despite the 5 year expiration period. If your number is on there, you’ll stay on there.

Legislation is working its way through congress to make enrollment permanent and until it is either approved or dies noone is being disenrolled.
