Hockey people, Hockey! No basketball here, so don’t get your undies all in a wad(unless you’re Canadian and then go ahead and get yourself all torqued out).

What can I say about the Predators vs. the Stars on Saturday night, they lost and it wasn’t pretty and let’s move on. In a hockey season there are 82 games total (41 home and 41 road) there just isn’t time to dwell on a loss or beat yourself up over it.

A hockey blogger that I’m willing to bet most people read already is Eklund at HockeyBuzz.com. Eklund has a special place in his heart for Nashville and has been here many times to attend games. He’s not local, but national and he gets and shares a lot of information about hockey. He also has contacts and local blogs set up for every NHL team. Currently Paul McCann, the arena announcer, writes a column for HockeyBuzz and also Brandon Felder writes a fan blog. While not strictly local bloggers, I believe that all of these guys still count when it comes to Predatorcentric blogging and they would make a good addition to your feedreader. You can subscribe to HockeyBuzz for more insider information if you want and there are comments and forums for you to interact as well.

The NHL trade deadline is tomorrow and lots of things could change around the league and in Nashville. Due to the injuries to Predators players this weekend, David Poile may be more motivated than before to look for some kind of trade deal. Watch the wire on this one.

Please don’t let them trade Dan Ellis! You need two good goalies in this league. Especially if you don’t have one great one. See NFL quarterbacks…

Paul Nicholson on 25 February, 2008 at 5:18 pm #

I’d say having goalies is more important than quarterbacks. More like pitchers in baseball.

I’d call Paul and Brandon local bloggers. They live in Brentwood and Murfreesboro respectively… that’s more local than half the people on MCB. They just host their blogs on HockeyBuzz instead of Blogger or Wordpress.

Anyway…My blurb on the trades…

I can’t believe Forsberg just signed with Colorado. What?! Don’t get that one at all. Bad for Colorado (they don’t need a superstar or veteran add) and they aren’t going to win the cup this year either way. They may not even make the playoffs. Not sure why he signed there… for old times sake i guess.

Goalies are often cash in hand on trade day. The Preds have been blessed with an extremely deep and talented line-up in the goalie position. Pekka Rinne continues to improve as does the next guy in line playing at the college level(I can’t remember his name, but he just won player of the week in college hockey as well as some killer stats).

I know who I want to go on the trading block, but won’t say it just in case i jinx it.

Forsberg plays from his heart and his heart was either in Philly, Colorado or home. I’m surprised that he decided to come back at all.

The question is where will Sundin be booted to? He’s going, kicking and screaming or not.

paul nicholson on 25 February, 2008 at 5:28 pm #

No offense, but do you read hockey news? Sundin refused to waive his no trade clause. Going nowhere.

I’ll name my trade bait…in order: Klein, DeVries, Mason, and Sullivan.

i love mason but he just doesn’t have what his contract is paying him, and silly is done. Love him, but we need to dump him

The Dallas game SUCKED!!!!!!!

It was pitiful! We left after that 5th goal and by the time we got home they’d scored a 6th.

We need some strong scorers and a hot defensive player. Who is out there we can get?

I agree with Forechecker (another local hockey blogger) that
Vaclav Prospal from Tampa Bay would be a good add at forward. Our old friend Yanic Perreault (now playing for Chicago) would be a good fit and is supposedly available i think too. Yanic has the benefit of not drawing too steep a price. But he has the same problem as Sergei Fedorov - he’s in our division. And GM’s have a cardinal rule about not trading within their own division (usually not within their own conference).

That’s the trick - there aren’t a whole lot out there that would make a good impact, but not come at too steep a price.

I think Poile (Preds GM) may just sit this one out. Too many buyers, too few sellers. Don’t sacrifice next year for a possible playoff round or two (I think we’ll make the playoffs without a trade, just not sure about winning much).

I agree with everyone except Mason. I’m not ready to turn him loose yet.

Sure, he definitely isn’t as hot as he was last year, but I have to wonder: what happened? What’s going on in our boy’s head? I’d rather try to work with Mason and try to fix what’s ailing him than dump him for some unknown. Mason’s got a lot of talent, we just need to help bring it out.

Honestly, I don’t know much about this stuff, except I love the game. I’m a newbie, I admit it. I just have a soft spot for Mason, after the way he came in and saved our bacon when Vokoun was ill.

PN- I read a lot of hockey news and I won’t be convinced that Sundin is untradeable until later tomorrow afternoon. He’s this year’s blockbuster deal waiting to happen, no matter what he says. We’ll see.

I don’t know who the Preds might trade for, Prospal would be a good fit and we already know Perrault, but I really have no clue and I’m looking forward to what Poile might do. It’s going to be an interesting day.

I did see Sully out with his family today and he’s not going anywhere.

Paul Nicholson on 25 February, 2008 at 9:24 pm #

Mason and Sully neither one are going anywhere. I agree. No team would take either one of them. Sully will never be the same - if he ever plays in the league again. And Mason isn’t worth the contract we signed him to last year (though it did seem like a smart move at the time).

This isn’t for lack of liking both of them. I love them both as a fan. But from a hockey perspective, it just isn’t there.

As for Sundin… i didn’t mean that to come across as insulting as i think it did. I just really think he is out of play. If he had made this announcement a month ago when all the speculation and talk was starting up, then i’d be more apt to think as you do. But making the announcement with barely 48 hours to go, and talk that he and several other Leafs are refusing to waive NTC’s… i think they are staying put. I admire the reasons he’s doing it. I really do. But he’s also screwing his team out of a good opportunity next year, and he’s making sure that future signees around the league get a trade preference clause (where they can, but must name 3-5 teams they would be willing to go to), but NTC’s are going to be VERY few and far between when many are pulling things like he is this year.

well…nevermind on Prospal. he just went to Philly
