New York governor Elliot Spitzer, scourge of Wall Street corruption and sordidness in the Music Bizness, has just confessed to senior aides of personal involvement in a prostitution ring. Apparently several key clients of Emperor’s Club VIP (an ‘escort’ service catering to men in the New York, Paris, London, Washington and Miami area) were arrested recently, and lo and behold, Spitzer’s name apparently appears in court papers related to the arrest.

Spitzer is well-known in local music circles for having gone after ‘payola’ and ensuring that artists are paid their complete royalties when Spitzer was the Attorney General for the state of New York. I’m guessing that not a few music industry bigwigbiz types are less than secretly pleased with this news.

I’m also guessing that Spitzer’s future political plans have changed. Time Magazine had named Spitzer ‘Crusader of the Year’ when he was New York Attorney General. His next crusade will most likely be to save his name and reputation.

You beat me to it. He’s probably going to get charged with violating the Mann Act for asking the hooker to travel from New York to Washington.

Best line ever.

Well, he’s just going to have to get in a long line of other politicians who don’t know how to keep their dicks in their pants. Up here (I live in NY), there’s something called the Bear Mountain Accord — whatever sexual misconduct our legislators engage in when they are north of Bear Mountain is generally overlooked by the press and cops. However, Spitzer messed up by a) deciding to play hardball with our very powerful Republican Senate Majority Leader, Joe Bruno (reputedly well connected with all sorts of nassssty folks) and b) being stupid enough to hire hookers south of Bear Mountain.

According to Wonkette, the Spitzer-type girls run at $5,500 an hour and it’s a three hour train trip from NY to D.C.

Boy, did he get his ticket punched!

I think they bill travel time at a lower “transit rate.” But how great is it that high-end call girls get union scale for travel?

Bridgett:

Yeah, I figured him or Bruno and Joe is a very nasty piece of work. But, Eliot Spitzer, as is the case with a lot of men of his age and level of achievement, seems to have a need to prove that his libido is super sized.

When I first heard about it, I said “Please, God, let it be a woman, at least”.

The local Mini-me Fox clone tv news station is reporting that all the republicans think he should resign for the good of the state of NY. I actually agree with them. Between his battles with Bruno, the upcoming budget imbroglio and the drivers license/immigration public relations fiasco I think he was political dead meat, anyway. More to the point, his resignation would make it possible for the next election to NOT be a referendum of choosing between Spitzer and Bruno.

It is curious that this investigation only snared one powerful pol–so far. Add to the list of folks, who would love to see Eliot disgraced, all of those charming Armani clad thugs on Wall Street.

I feel sorry for his wife and kids. I feel like he let a lot of people down. I hope that he goes back to fighting the good fight against the corrupt and venal bastards that he used to put in jail before he got starry-eyed.

Maybe this investigation is why Bruno has been uncharacteristically quiet about Albany going to hell in a handbasket if the dems take control of the state senate.

Payola? Bad. Pay Olga? Ok.

Burn in hell, Spitzer.

Richly deserved.

News 2 Me:

He’s Jewish, I don’t think they believe in hell.

Do you feel this way because he is a democrat, a philanderer or because he cost you money?
