Also why when they mention Prom night they show someone with dishwashing gloves…my mind goes many places.

I didn’t get it. I thought it was weird and I thought Sharon looked like she had a badger on her head.

What drugs are you people using and can I have some please? Maybe I would then also like “There Will Be Blood” too … ‘kay thx bye ….

“Best,” in this case, reallly means “most totally personally embarassing and most horrible ever.”

Slartibartfast on 11 March, 2008 at 5:29 pm #

I’m with SB. I wanted to laugh or be amused. I was expecting something so bad - think Plan 9 - that one had to laugh when watching.

This was just normal folks being incredily ordinary.

Maybe my humor switch is off today? No that can’t be - Today I calculated how many hours I’ve spent peeing at work over the last 12 years.

So I’m just back to not getting it.

Things like this always make me feel sad and uncomfortable. I can’t stand to watch people embarrass themselves, it makes me feel like crying. That’s me, the big baby.

Dr. Mop-N-Glo, from The Sopranos?

Well, I also get the willies, watching people embarrass themselves, but this didn’t trigger that, in me. I didn’t really laugh, either — I knew they were being earnest, and they’ve not spent time in front of a camera, which means this is kinda brilliant. From a marketing perspective, it has buzz, and that’s all that matters.

Guys, the couple did this as a fun joke.
Remember John Waters?

Heather on 11 March, 2008 at 9:12 pm #

OK, I’ll bite, I’ve never heard of John Waters, but I live in a weird little bubble immune to much of pop culture.

Newscoma on 11 March, 2008 at 9:20 pm #

Here you go.

This was done in this style.
I got to see Waters in the Daisy in Memphis.
Fred and Sharon, I believe, if you guys look at it, are of this ilk and is fun because they are having some fun.
It makes it kinda cool …

Heather on 11 March, 2008 at 9:28 pm #

Just to explain the ick factor, I thought it was one of those low budget local type commercials. I didn’t see it from the “farce” angle.

Newscoma on 11 March, 2008 at 9:35 pm #

It’s all good. A lot of folks don’t get that.
Seriously, it’s of the fun. :)

Slartibartfast on 12 March, 2008 at 7:40 am #

Ahh - now I get it!

Context is everything in comedy.

Jim Voorhies on 12 March, 2008 at 9:47 am #

Well, I still think it was funny even if I didn’t get the John Waters thing, but then I have a strange sense of humor sometimes.

I wish I could watch this right now so I could understand the hubbub :) (I’m at work)…Oh, the pity of having youtube blocked!
