At the risk of discouraging future such candor for our e-enjoyment, I commend the following to you.

Current Hillary supporter (who’s reluctantly coming around to Obama) and Corrente blog contributor VastLeft is promising a serial book report of The Audacity of Hope. Vastleft’s first entry contains an explanation for Obama being a member but not a koolaid drinker at Chicago’s Trinity United Church of Christ for 20 years:

A couple of years later, [Obama] decided to go all-in for a U.S. Senate bid, which was “bolstered by several helpful endorsements.” I don’t doubt it.If he wasn’t successful, he was going to pack in his political ambitions, to the likely relief of his wife.

He spent four or five hours a day calling major Democratic donors. Funny, Hillary is routinely vilified for seeking out large contributions. I reckon the difference is that when Obama gets a large donation, it’s still really all about you. I’ll bet the checks are even made out to you.

He lists the various places he gets himself invited to, in order to promote himself, including getting people “to arrange for my visit to their church.” Sometimes, though, the pastors would “forget to recognize me.” That’s gotta suck, doesn’t it, when you miss out on a chance to campaign in a house of worship?

Of course, I think most of what VastLeft says is hogwash, but it is fun to see those Democratic rapiers carving up Democrats for a spell.

What makes sense? This is just jibberish.

He sought out endorsements? Yeah, so?

He dialed for dollars? Yeah, nobody is criticizing Hillary for taking large checks, she is criticized for taking PAC and lobbyists funds though.

He went to black churches? Yep, as do most successful Democratic politicians…I can’t count how many times I’ve seen pictures of Bill or Hillary at churches this year.

It makes sense for plausibly asserting “Obama[’s] being a member but not a koolaid drinker at Chicago’s Trinity United Church of Christ for 20 years.”

That would indicate that there was kool-aide to be drunk, but I’d agree, Obama is a critical thinker, not some rube who takes whatever his pastor says for granted.

Sure there was kool aid to be drunk, those folks in the pews of Trinity UCC were being poisoned by Wright’s teachings.

And I disagree that the quotes in the post reflect that Obama is a critical thinker or a non-rube or not agreeing with what was being taught at his church.

Sean Braisted:

Once again, you are overmatched. If Ned Williams says it is so, just admit that you’re wrong and move on.

I was beginning to think that I was seeing a bit of pattern here of “attack posting” against b. HUSSEIN obama by Ned Williams, but I’m sure I must be mistaken. Ned Williams is only trying to educate those who have not yet seen the error of their ways. So, yes of course he has to point out the perfidy and treasonous behavior of a dangerous black man like b. HUSSEIN obama in as many posts as possible. Meanwhile, St. John McCain, war hero, honorable KKKristian soldier and “straight talker” is surely going to learn the difference between Sunnis, Shia and Shinola one day soon.

Give it up, Sean–Ned Williams is way too smart for the likes of you.

Sean Braisted on 27 March, 2008 at 8:39 pm #

He’s certainly better educated.

Please show where I have used Obama’s middle name, democommie.

I plead guilty to being critical–persistently so, of Liberal/Democratic presidential candidates.

And when MusicCityBloggers are no longer discussing the 2008 presidential candidates I’ll stop (maybe) posting about them.

Ned Williams:

Music City Bloggers are discussing a number of things but politics is certainly one of them. And yes you are certainly persistently critical of anyone other than your chosen political savior Senator and WAR HERO, John McCain.

Ned Williams:

You did say, elsewhere that you are the Co-editor for politics, here at MCB. You edit nearly as well as Rush and Mr. O’lierly.
