Steve McNair, hero of the 1999 Super Bowl for the Titans, and NFL MVP in 2003, will announce his retirement this afternoon.   The latter years of McNair’s career were not of the story-book variety, but all Titans fans remember a oft-injured warrior returning time and again and again to lead the Titans.

McNair to Wycheck…McNair to Mason…McNair running in for the touchdown….McNair willing the Titans to win games they had no business winning.

Godspeed to you, Mr. McNair.

For those who’ve never had the pleasure, Steve McNair is one of the nicest professional atheletes I’ve ever met before. No true Titans fan was happy with the way he was treated by the Titans front office before he got traded to the hated Ravens, he certainly didn’t deserve it.

One of my favorite memories of McNair outside of the field (there are too many game memories to pick one) was the summer before he went to the Ravens. He got a table out on the patio at South Street Restaurant and everyone who walked by was shaking his hand or saying hi. He was going all out to make sure he acknolwedged everyone who came up to wish him luck at his new job. Not once did he ignore anyone or act like he couldn’t be bothered.

His volunteer work during Katrina’s aftermath should also be mentioned here as well.

Nashville was lucky to have a guy like him as the face of Titans for so long, and he’ll always be one of my favorite football players.

Good Luck McNair, and thanks for the memories.

I was sorry the Titans traded him off. There were other class players on the team, but few like McNair. Then we got PacMan. What a total difference.

Thank you Steve McNair for all of the great Titans memories you gave us.

I will always appreciate how you conducted yourself and became a sports roll model for our children.

Wishing you all of the very best that life has to offer. You deserve it.

Unless Steve has sold his home here and divested his business interests, we should see quite a bit of him in the future.
