Sharon Cobb has a post that reminds me of a girlfriend-to-girlfriend “talking to” that you can hear on college campuses on Monday mornings across the country: “America, If You Let Barack Obama Slide Through Your Hands Because Of Some Bumps , Then You Don’t Deserve Him As Your President.” I doubt that Sharon’s post was directed at me (I’m a Republican, plus I’m already spoken for in the “messiah” department–just kidding, just kidding), but I guess I just “don’t deserve” Obama.
From a somewhat different perspective but in the same vein, Brendan Loy makes his rather earnest case for Obama and directs it toward Conservatives. As I explain here, I’m skeptical. (hat tip: Post Politics).
Vol Abroad is posting on the subject as well. She writes:
Barack Obama has denounced Rev. Wright’s words. He found them offensive. Well, good - I guess. But it struck me that what Obama really found offensive was that Wright wasn’t following the party line anymore, wasn’t giving Obama his due. After all, he’d heard 20 years of Wright’s challenging sermons - but only a few minutes of Wright’s criticisms of one Barack Obama.
(hat tip: No Silence Here) After apparently first believing that the Rev. Dr. Wright had diverged from past policy and theological positions in his most recent media marathon (read her whole post) it appears Vol Abroad is skeptical, too, even if through Hillary-tinted glasses.
I think the other side of the coin is more telling:
America, if you vote Barack Obama in as your president, then you deserve him.
I have to admit, exador, that after seeing Hillary’s interview on O’Reilly (for the record, he is really annoying to me), she is going to or will be a formidable candidate.
You have to admire the old girl. She won’t quit. She is much tougher than Obama also. I would feel safe with her as Commander in Chief. It would be like having the mafia look out for you. You don’t want to know their methods, but you sure are glad when they are on your side.
Obama on the other hand… Can you say Jimmy Carter part deux?
Can you say Jimmy Carter part deux?
Really Glen, is that the best you can do?
Carter would have been easily preferred to the Bush/Cheney/Rice fiasco that we have been saddled with the past 7 years.
To assert that Obama would be Carter like, is speculation at best, and considering the prejudice of the source,is [pardon me] some “weak ass” attempt at casting President Obama in a bad light.
CB, you seem a little bitter.
It is endlessly entertaining to listen to people who wouldn’t vote for a democrat if he/she was running against satan debate the merits of Hillary v Obama.
Now, as a guy who wouldn’t vote for a GOPerv under any circumstances I understand your motivations (which I think are silly) but I wouldn’t waste my time saying what a swell candidate any of them would make. Unless I was just trying to stir the pot a bit.
CB,
I didn’t bring up the comparison, and you may perceive that “Jimmy Carter” is a one-size-fits-all Republican put-down, but I think there are a variety of substantive similarities between Obama and Carter. Of course it’s speculation (kind of like asserting that a Carter administration would have been preferable to Dubya’s over the past 7 years).
As far as stirring the pot, gotta do something to keep you coming back, right dc?
Ned Williams:
Just your nonsense is all it takes to make me want to do what I do. I promise that the minute you stop misreporting, misrepresenting or just flat out lying about what you disagree with in this world, then I’ll stop commenting on your post threads. I think that will be a long time from now.
To think that anything about that odious pos, George W. Bush makes him superior to Jimmy Carter..well, I guess that says more about you than anything else of yours that I’ve read so far.
