Deborah Jeane Palfrey, a loving daughter and sister, hanged herself last week.

I just wanted you to know her name. The “D.C. Madam” is how almost all of us know of her, and that’s to our shame. We are taught to dehumanize prostitutes so much that we don’t even use their real names. They’re just “things.

Since I don’t got no teevee and the few bars I go to don’t do news (thank you!) I don’t know much more than what I heard on the day of the event. I’m not convinced that whole thing is over.

Her attorney seemed genuinely distressed when he spoke, briefly, on that day. It would be fitting if her will included instructions to dump the names of all of her clients to the newsies.
