“I don’t know how many people are converted to a particular religion at the mere sight of a cross. We’re dealing with kids here, not vampires, and so long as they aren’t being handed religious literature, or being preached to about biblical texts, I really don’t see the big deal.”
–Sean Braisted regarding the use of church facilities for public school graduation ceremonies. Read more of his thoughts on the matter here.
I went to a church service as part of our graduation set of events. It was totally optional and I probably wouldn’t have gone had it not been the only opportunity I had to wearing the shocking shiny yellow graduation gown we gals at my high school had to wear. (I had something better to do on graduation day itself).
It really wasn’t that bad - and I’m big on the whole separation clause thing,.
I think it’s a great idea.
Catholic church this year, Baptist next year, Mormon, Buddhist and Jewish temples, Wiccan, etc.,.
I’m fine with it, and I abhor organized religion. As long as the parents are fine with it, and I mean ALL of them!!!
