Lost in East Nashville. Beloved by Jagadiah. He escaped last night.

He’s the big boy on the right.

If you have seen him, let her know.

UPDATE:  Otto has been found thanks to a lot of wonderful people who helped save the day.

pogo-lap.jpgHi …My name is Pogo. I’m a female, spayed ,10 years old with a body & mind of a four year old. That’s what I’ve heard from my friends…. I was a cat on the streets of Miami, not a bad place to be homeless. I have fond memories of eating corn on the cob out of garbage cans & as I paw the keyboard I’m getting a hankering for a kernel or two. So, let me get on with my story…. One night while I was hiding from a Tom Cat that use to scare me, a very lovely couple walked by with a smashing young male (neutered) Sheltie…. It was instant love at first sight…. I followed the three of them home. Mouse (the dog’s name) and I stared at each other through a cold glass window until the wee hours of the morning. Linda came out and left me some food. I was a little frightened but it turned out to be a wonderful home for me for the last 9 1/2 years.Times have changed and I need to be by myself…not with any cats…see I hate cats & love dogs…it must be from my difficult times being on the streets with bullies like Tom Cat. I really could love someone and be there best friend. I have never knocked anything over and I ALWAYS use my kitty litter (just keep it clean for me). I’m an inside cat and I never want to see the wild again…. So, if you’re looking for a great buddy and someone that won’t take advantage, I could be the girl for you. Please give me a meow…..

my email is : lhochberg@lawrencebrosllc.com

If you are able to give this sweet kitty a home, please e-mail Linda or me.

How do you define a good neighbor?  Someone who lends you a chainsaw when your bradford pear inevitably falls down.  A good neighbor keeps their lawn mowed and trash out of the yard.  They don’t rev their scooters motorcycles all hours of the day and night.  And most importantly, good neighbors have got your back.  Especially when you lose a pet.  Like this neighbor…

Next time I find myself in the dog house (sorry for the cliche), this is where I want to go.  These people have 1.) too much money, or 2.) too much money and dearly love their pooches, 3.) and why aren’t these dogs indoor dogs with this kind of money?

Last Comic Standing was on site and filming in East Nashville yesterday, and Rachel had a run in with a famous type at the very popular Pied Piper.

There was an annoying dad and his son who completely held up the process to the point of mass confusion, but finely I got us each a cone and was making my out through the crowd, only to basically kick the SAME annoying kid out of the door to get out of there. And then, Bill Bellamy nearly ran me over. Literally. After a few very loud and pointed “EXCUSE MEs” to the rude kid standing smack dab in the middle of the door, I’m walking down the steps and look up to see a camera crew, and Bill Bellamy running up the stairs to the ice cream shop. I tried to keep my cool because OMG I WANT TO BE ON LAST COMIC STANDING, but as soon as I made it past the camera I looked at Brent to make sure he had seen what just happened!!

No way to tell if she’ll end up in the final cut (we’ll just have to watch), but how could any producer resist featuring Nashville’s First Dog on their show?

Well, there’s this guy named Jarrod Cooper. Cooper plays for the Oakland Raiders, and, was suspended four games last year for steroid use. Based on this information, he is somewhat akin to Mr. Vick.

But, take a look at what Cooper did with his time while he was suspended:

He needed something to fill his time, to distract him from the disturbing thoughts that filled his head and to begin building a future without football. So he arrived at the {animal} shelter like any other volunteer. The staff members didn’t ask too many questions about the heavily muscled young man with elaborate tattoos, but they did find him intriguing.

“He’d drive up in this nice car. He had all this time,” volunteer coordinator Megan Webb said, laughing. “We had no idea.”

Cooper returned to the Raiders, and everyone at the shelter figured out who he was late in the season, when he got hurt and arrived to volunteer on crutches. By then, he was hooked on the place. He had become the perfect antidote to Vick and his sadistic dogfighting ring - a pro athlete who owned big dogs and, more and more every day, devoted the fierce intensity cultivated by football to the cause of protecting animals.

“When I first came here, I’d see a mean dog, I’d say what’s wrong with that dog? And now if I would see a mean dog, I think, ‘Who did that to this animal?’ ” he said. “The dogs only do what you train them to do.”

This isn’t a Nashville story, or even a blog piece, but Cooper’s story moved me. The power of animals to change your heart, and ultimately your life, is a compelling one. Click here for the rest of the story (he’s even working with a society to teach pit bull owners how to train their pets!)

First of all, this is what’s happening with a breakdown written by the folks at the Cool Dog Hall of Fame

I am very sad to report this morning that Breed Specific Legislation has been introduced into the Tennessee General Assembly. This legislation, Senate Bill 2738, would make it a crime in this state to even own a so-called “pit bull” type dog. “Pit bull” type dogs are defined as “any American pit bull terrier, Staffordshire Bull Terrier, American bulldog, or American Staffordshire Terrier, or any mixed breed dog that contains fifty percent of its lineage from those breeds.” And, the bill would “Force any person found guilty of owning a “pit bull dog” to surrender custody and forfeit ownership of the dog to a humane society.” It’s about as bad as it gets. (It’s a good bet that the dogs would be put to sleep once surrendered to a humane society.)

Tennessee dog owners will be fighting this wrong-headed legislation.

Aunt B. is more than pissed. She’s furious.

I don’t know how we ensure this never gets out of committee, but we’ve got to do it. Tell me, folks what can be done and I’ll be at the capitol doing it.

Can I trade him my right hand for her? My kidney? I’ll give him a kidney if he lets me keep my dog. That’s a more than fair trade as far as I’m concerned.

Say Uncle also agrees:

We seem to have gotten along without it thus far. You can contact Tommy and let him know that breed specific legislation is pointless at:

Finally, from Michael Silence:

Geez. When will people finally get fed up with government telling them what to do?

Hey legislators. Go read this. That way when it happens you’ll know what it is.

More as I find them …

I love this picture. Coco shares her tales of Scooter’s Christmas at her place.

Usually she has her body turned around, so that she can see the tree, and all the shiny things that she would like to claim as her own. She did snag some silver beads, and promptly hid them under the tree skirt for future playtime.

*UPDATE: The owner saw one of my signs in the neighborhood, called me, and is now reunited with their doggie…hooray!*

This female dog just followed me and my two dogs home from our walk.

She is grayish in color, I think she looks like she’s a pit bull (or at least a mix), seems to have recently given birth, and has a pink collar with faux diamond studs on it–or maybe that bling is real and I’ll be keeping that collar as a finder’s fee.

The collar also has part of a leash that apparently tore off, leading to her escape.

Currently she’s on a 25 foot leash in my front yard in Hermitage. I gave her food (albeit large breed puppy food) and water of which she barely touched. This makes me think she hasn’t been missing for too long.

If this is your pooch or you know who she belongs to, give me a call at 310-7031.

I have NEVER understood why a “family themed” resort built around a series of movies featuring animals (Mice, bears, dogs, cats, horses, more dogs, more mice, alien dogs…you get the picture) had such BEYOND LOUSY pet care services. Oh, they have kennels. First come, first serve. You have to leave your pet there in the morning and pick him up at night. You have to walk your pet.

For those of us whose pets are our family, Walt Disney World’s response to pet ownership has been somewhat akin to asking you to leave your baby in jail while you enjoy the park. For YEARS now, pet owners have been clamouring for better, more up-to-date pet services at the Resort. In fact, in nearly every “what would you like to see Disney do next?” poll, pet care tops everything–including “more rollercoasters” and “more bars”.

So you better believe I was overjoyed when I read this.

The Walt Disney Company is building a new resort at Walt Disney World for pets. Best Friends Pet Care Inc. has signed an agreement to build a luxury pet resort at the Walt Disney World Resort. The facility will offer a full range of pet hospitality including dog and cat boarding, day care, grooming and day camp. Pets will enjoy amenities such as televisions, raised beddings and activities such as nature walks and to bedtime stories.

It was definitely kismet. Sarcastro decided he couldn’t deal with his agent of chaos cat for one more minute, so he offered Milkshake up for adoption. Ginger had been looking for a cat, since her precious kitty died this fall. So Ginger adopted the agent of chaos cat. Ah, the blog community. Bringing people together one animal at a time.

I love it when folks find their inner cat blogger.

I have no cats. I guess I’m a dog blogger among other things. Incidentally, Lee, I had a friend who named all of his cats “Spud.” Even when he had more than one cat. They were all named Spud. Sometimes, alas, there was confusion.

Just saying.

Yow.  Sadcox has a query about those who stand outside of grocery stores trying to pawn off their kittens.

The “free kittens” sign almost always includes the small print phrase “to a good home.”

What kind of home is good?  Is it the kind where you don’t get your cat spayed, allow it to reproduce, then stand out in front of a store and give away the feline offspring to total strangers?  Or, as my friend put it, “why do they care?  By making the kittens free, they have determined that they have no value on the open market.”

hmmmm…I’ve never really given it much thought.  But that is a great point.

This is a new billboard campaign from Heather Mills in the UK.

According to Mills, who is a very vocal vegan (nice alliteration, huh?), and the organization, “Viva,” consuming anything from cows is promoting global warming and destroying the environment, because of all the methane they produce.

She actually asks, “Why don’t we drink rat’s milk or cat’s milk or dog’s milk?”   (gah! Sorry if you were eating breakfast!)

I believe we should all do our part to preserve the environment for future generations, and I am also very much of the belief that we consume far too much meat and dairy as opposed to fruits and veggies for the good of our health.

But…isn’t this taking the whole idea a little too far?

What say you?

It seems as though Supermousey has a bit of a problem on her hands.

Demon Cat was biting Angel Kitty on the neck, and it was hurting the poor creature! I pulled Gary out and hissed at Dandy and Eggnog threw him in the dungeon!

Of course, it does make me wonder what a superMOUSEY is doing with a bunch of cats in the first place. She must certainly be a confident sort of mouse.
